Dr Cobus Pienaar (Organisational Psychologist)
Managing Director, Arbinger Institute South Africa
Dr Cobus Pienaar was born and raised in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He graduated from the University of the Free State in 1994 and completed his postgraduate studies in 2005, obtaining all his degrees with distinction.
He is registered as anorganisational psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, and has been appointed as senior psychologist and organisational development consultant for a number of organisations. From 2002 to 2015,
Dr Pienaar was employed as senior lecturer in the Department of Industrial Psychology at the University of the Free State. He also chaired that department from 2007 to 2010. He still conducts research on topics related to leadership, careers and dysfunctional leadership and organisations, and has published in peer-reviewed academic journals such as the South African Journal of Education, Acta-Academica, South African Journal of Psychology, Tydskrif vir Geesteswetenskappe, South African Journal of Business Management, Southern African Business Review and South African Journal of Industrial Psychology.
In addition, Dr Pienaar has read scientific papers at various international conferences such as Advances in Management, the International Congress on Leadership in Post-school Education, IPED Conference, the International Conference in Contemporary Business, and the 6th European Conference on Leadership, Management and Governance. He is often approached to review academic articles for scientific peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Pienaar has represented the Arbinger Institute in South Africa as Managing Director since 2008. The Institute is a world-renowned management consulting and training firm and a scholarly consortium specialising in shifting mindsets. Cobus is leading the delivery of Arbinger’s programmes and consulting services in South Africa and is often consulting by companies in the private sector, focusing on the development of leaders and teams.
